History of First Presbyterian Church of Los Angeles

The First Presbyterian Church of Los Angeles is a 132 year old congregation located in the Mid-City area of Los Angeles. The congregation began as a church located in the center of Downton Los Angeles, and moved three times in its first 20 years as the downtown area expanded. Our current location of 1809 West Boulevard came to be when First Church was merged with West Washington Presbyterian Church in 1928. In the late 60s, the demographics of the neighborhood changed and the congregation has been made up to mostly African-Americans since then. We have had wonderful pastoral leadership over the years, and our current pastor is the Rev. Calvin Moore II. We are a small congregation that stresses community service and have done so through our Thanksgiving Distribution and Food Pantry Distribution for over 30 years. We believe that the Lord is just getting started with us here at the First Presbyterian Church of Los Angeles, and we encourage you to come and join us on this journey with the Lord.
